The Walworth county Agricultural society announced Thursday that the 2020 fair has been cancelled citing a concern for public safety and the recent surge in COVID 19 cases. As recently as a month ago the board was trying to save the fair, they even got approval to sell beer for the first time in the history of the fair hoping to increase revenue. The fair organizers said they will still present exhibits for children to show off their livestock and other projects but they will not be open to the public, they are also working out the details to conduct the livestock sale. The fair according to a UW Madison study creates more than 30 local jobs and brings in over 7 million into the local economy. It would’ve been the 171’st year of the fair making it one of the longest running events in Wisconsin.
