UW Whitewater announced two types of furloughs to Combat COVID19

UW Whitewater announced two types of furloughs to cover about 5 million of the around 9 million the University expects to lose because of the COVID 19 pandemic and hopes federal aid covers the rest. Furloughs of up to three months coming between May and July are planned for 12 month employees who are not currently working and others who will be identified this week. All other employees must take 13 furlough days between May 1st and June 30th. The furloughs will allow workers to accrue time for health insurance, vacation and sick time, the University did say that layoffs are possible if the situation calls for it. UW Whitewater and UW Rock County are cutting application fees and making it easier to apply for college as well. They are reducing admission fees from 50 to 25 dollars and fee waivers are available for students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. They are accepting unofficial transcripts for admission consideration and flexibility submitting other application materials And holding students harmless for cancellation of college board exams or a high school moving to a pass fail system. Applications for the fall semester will be taken throughout the summer.
