On Friday at 4:56pm, officers from the Janesville Police Department were dispatched to the 300 Block of E. Memorial Drive for a wanted subject. According to a press release, as officers were arriving on scene, they observed suspect Marquayl Shields retreat into an apartment. Officers were able to set a perimeter on the apartment and attempted phone negotiations with Shields, who refused to speak to officers over the phone after several attempts to have him exit the apartment. Witnesses had reported seeing Shields with a firearm the day before; he is prohibited from possessing firearms. A search warrant was drafted for the apartment. The Janesville Police and Beloit Police Department SWAT teams were activated to respond for the execution of the search warrant. Upon arrival of the SWAT team, a short time later, Shields surrendered without incident. While searching the apartment, officers located a stolen 9mm handgun Shields is currently on a signature bond through Rock County for Fleeing an Officer. Shields is on probation/parole through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for Felony Theft. He was later transported out to the Rock County Jail pending his initial court appearance. Charges include Probation Violation, Battery/Domestic Violence, Strangulation/Suffocation/Domestic Violence Intimidation of a Victim, Disorderly Conduct/Domestic Violence, Felony Bail Jumping and Felon in Possession of a Firearm
