The Janesville Senior Center has announced a new program that aims to bring residents of different ages and backgrounds together and provide meaningful opportunities for them to learn from one another and build connections. On Wednesday, May 17, at 9:30 a.m., the Intergenerational Project for Local Veterans will pair first graders from St. Paul's School with Senior Center members for a morning of crafting for a cause. Each member and student will work together to create special patriotic gifts to be given to local veterans on the Fourth of July. By fostering relationships, this program aims to help to combat isolation and loneliness while also promoting understanding and empathy. Students will be able to learn from the knowledge and experiences of members, while older participants will enjoy the energy and enthusiasm of the youth. Research has shown activities like the Intergenerational Project have a positive impact on community mental health, cognitive function, and physical well-being.
