The Milton City Council approved the drafting on an ordinance that would allow residents to keep bees and chickens. An Urban chicken ordinance was proposed in 2015 but failed during the first reading. The draft would allow residents to keep 4 hens and honeybees because they are non aggressive, they would not allow roosters. The city allows up to three disconnected structures on a city lot but the director of public works pointed out that dog houses are not considered structures and expects chicken coops to be viewed the same way. Public hearings will be held on the ordinance when it returns to the council for a first reading.
