City of Fort Atkinson Local Government Academy

The City of Fort Atkinson is accepting applications for the Local Government Academy. According to the City, this is open to all City of Fort Atkinson residents of voting age. The Fort Atkinson Local Government Academy provides a hands-on opportunity for residents to learn more about City operations and services, widen community relationships, develop leadership skills and identify opportunities to apply leadership skills in the community and with City government. The Fort Atkinson Local Government Academy will meet July 25, August 8, August 22, August 29 and September 12, 2023, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Fort Atkinson Local Government Academy is an informative and interactive opportunity to learn about the City of Fort Atkinson department operations and government. Participants will learn more about the council/manager form of government and various City departments, as well as take tours of City properties. A major goal for both the University of Wisconsin Extension and the City of Fort Atkinson is to increase civic engagement and opportunities for residents to learn about community services and ways to participate and engage in the decision-making processes. In cooperation, the Fort Atkinson Local Government Academy will provide a hands-on opportunity to strengthen community relationships, learn more about community challenges and opportunities, help advocate for important topics and enhance the City’s communication efforts. The Local Government Academy was made possible thanks to a generous grant from the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation. Applications are due May 24th by 5:00 p.m. All applicants will be notified by June 14th if they are accepted into the Academy.
